What Can I Expect?

How long is a service at Providence?

In total, services last for about 1 hour. Services begin with an entrance hymn to start the service with worship. The words are available either in the hymnal or will be printed on the service guide so you can join in along with the congregation. We then proceed with the greeting, confession and forgiveness, and then the assurance of pardon, for those who are new to congregational participation in the service the bold sections in the service guide are the parts which the congregation proclaims together. We then sing a hymn of praise in response to God's grace towards us where a prayer for illumination follows before we receive our first lesson from the scriptures.

After hearing the first lesson we join together in singing a psalm and then receive a gospel lesson and the sermon. We then sing an affirmation of our faith (we use the Nicene creed for this), pray for the church, and present the tithes and offerings. Beginning to close we respond in thankfulness towards God and partake in the elements as the Lord commanded. Lastly, before we're sent out we sing a prayer of thanksgiving and are blessed before going back into the world to live for Christ. If you would like to learn more about our worship please visit our worship page.

What Should I Wear?

Most of our congregants tend to dress up as we approach the Lord. That said, come as you are and expect to feel welcomed as a guest.

What About My Kids?

We believe that children are a heritage and blessing from the Lord (Psalm 127:3) and should get to participate in the service just as much as adults. And while we don't have “kid's church” we do have childcare offered for infants and toddlers.
